Geofumadas is searching an Spanish – English translator

clip_image001There has been a long time ago I’ve been considering it and finally I decided to create Geofumadas’ English version, so I’m seeking  for a translator to pass all my posts from Spanish to English.

I would prefer someone who speaks native English, with its accent or at least someone with better skills than my mocking Spanglish.

The payment method is open to discussion, preferably via PayPal and it will be by post.

I accept proposals.

Designing a Solar Plant with AutoCAD Civil 3D

It has been announced a webcast where we can learn about AutoCAD Civil 3D’s applications to solar plants.  This will be on March 26, 2009 at noon (12:00 or 13:00 hours, according to Madrid time, I guess). The webcast content includes:

  • The creation of a digital terrain model (MDT).
  • An MDT analysis using longitudinal and transversal profiles
  • An MDT edition for achieving desired conditions.
  • The necessary ground movements and the final result.

Podcast usage is being increasingly used because professionals can view the presentation, consult and comment about it in “real-time” (or nearest it), without leaving the office.  Other software companies have changed its annual conferences to this method getting many advantages such as: saving costs, gaining more audience and allowing a more easy way for those who are really interested and could not attend a face-to-face event.  Although the limiting of broadband access is a problem that still affects hearings; however it seems a problem easier to solve instead of attending an international event.

So let’s to take part of it, we only require a phone number and Internet access.

How will your technology be in 50 years

clip_image001As a question it’s simply dull, but as an assertion it would be senselessness. However, this is the audaciousness of a book I have purchased today in the library. It has been written by a journalist named Mike Wallace whose intention does not lead us to an “oracle time” but invites to wonder about what might happen in the next 50 years keeping an initial retrospective of what had happened in last 50 ones. Just ask your grandpa if he imagined that, in 1947 there would be a cell phone with including camera as it was invented in 1997

The book’s title is “A future view to our world in the next 50 years”, and it is based on interviews with persons who won Nobel prizes in Scientific Innovation Area or had been models in different areas cracking knowledge paradigms. Paradigms actually known as common use technology such as energy, telecommunications, medicine, economy or in more general term, scientific advances.

This theme started a discussion with my son, who wondered if I could know how the future will be after reading it. At last, we did a deal: if in 50 years on, when I’ll be scratching more than 80 (if I get it) and he will be reaching over 60, we will uncover the book’s dust from our library returning to the ancient practice of "reading"; looking through its pages and guffawing together again… as we did today while he was having fun with his Nintendo’s new magazine edition and my 6 years old daughter was excited (a Spanish idiom: “comerse las uñas”) viewing another magazine cover which contains the characters of “High School Musical”

This will be so, because it’s a technology reckless to say for example, how will Google Earth be within 5 years, or how many GB of RAM will AutoCAD 2015 take for. We just only have to see how was cartography 60 years ago.  It’s certainly the same to forecast about next 50 years.

But this book is not a wasting time. Here we can read different opinions of persons such as:

  • Vint Cerf, Google Vice President; known as “The Internet Father”
  • Kim Dae-jung, the former President of the Republic of Korea
  • Ronald Noble, Interpol’s General Secretary
  • Norman Borlaug, Nobel Prize winner; he’s called the “Father of the Environmental Revolution”
  • Craig Newmark, Internet pioneer and founder of the craigslist

These opinions could give us a great motivation. After all, if we read blogs like this one which now takes you nearly 32 minutes…  Here I leave you some highlight lines I found attractive although I hardly revised it completely:

You can connect your car at night and recharge the battery, using electricity when energy in your local plant has less demand.

Malcolm Bricklin, Subaru and Yoke America founder.

Computer games and Virtual Reality could improve so much their quality that people could find most of their entertainment there rather than travelling, reading, attending concerts, theatre or other amusements.

Gerardus ´t Hooft, 1999 Physics Nobel

The capital flow and economic growth will be less concentrated in the West. China and India are likely to be equal competitors, but the true is that they will be global economic leaders.

Among the greatest challenges we’ll confront in the future lazing loving society, there will include lifestyles and behaviors associated with economic solvency like obesity, stress and exercise absence.

It is so a nice reading, that I recommend for your next library visit.

Bentley changes the presenting form of its annual event

For several years Bentley Systems has made annual events which include the excellence award for innovation in technology implementations and, at the same time, give us conferences where we can know latest innovations, and seminars based on their customers or thematic experts experiences.

In last years conferences carried out by Bentley Institute changed their presenting form, so instead of renowned workshops, these became in seminars taken at will.

Last year Bentley launched its V8i version which has been known by a presentation and some recent podcasts. Certainly, it’s probably that as a result from the economic crisis, Bentley have radically changed its form instead of our expectations for a glamorous conference presentation exhibiting V8i version wonders.

be inspiredThe "BE Excellence Awards" renamed as “BE Inspired Awards”, will be now in September in Charlotte, North Carolina instead of May 11 to 14 as it had been announced in the January Magazine .  It’ll be only one day, so surely it will only be the external exhibition panels and the night ceremony.

Meanwhile, the BE Conference will be rename as "Be Connected".  It will be online through BE communities from June - November 2009 instead of a classical 3 days long conference.  Last year the annual event coincided with the new corporate web image proposal in which blogs have not taken great part in; but it has been interesting the space given for forums and especially wikis where Askinga page was migrated to. This page have been active since long ago and it has my deference (a Spanish idiom: “me quito el sombrero”) for its acknowledgement in the community for ones who were born with a DGN based genome.

It’s known United States’ economic crisis is affecting almost everyone. Bentley can’t escape from it; so changes are probably necessary, but surely their customers will demand older presentations and of course press will inquire if the original impact is lost. This would be Bentley’s second change after the crisis; previously they launched BE employable campaign for those who could be unemployed and would like to get benefit educational licenses to their MicroStation knowledge.

For now on, I have the good will to assist on May, so to prevent loosing this momentum I request a Select CD to take a look at V8i version. I hope this will arrive in about three weeks (too much time!); therefore, like another personal decisions, I decided to browse information using other sources.  Here I show you the 5 CDs content list the shipment have already confirmed me:
